Individual Psychotherapy is a regulated practice in Ontario, whereby wellness and healing are facilitated between a person and a trained mental health professional. This relationship is integral to the treatment and is based on open communication, ongoing collaboration, and recognized psychotherapeutic approaches or interventions. Psychotherapy with Nicole expressly recognizes that individual wellness & concerns are connected to our environments, families, communities, and structural factors (ex. capitalism, colonialism, racism, sexism, ableism/disablism, homophobia, transphobia). As such she applies a (w)holistic lens to her work with people as they attempt to navigate life in an increasingly fragmented society.

Nicole is an integrative therapist (which means she combines theory and techniques from various therapeutic schools of thought based on the express uniqueness of each person), that believes in the value of relational dynamic therapy, and where possible long-term in-depth therapy for a deeper understanding of self in the world. Approaches drawn upon may include Narrative, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Existential, Systems, Psychodynamic, Attachment, Liberation Psychology, Cognitive and Behavioural, to cultural, creative and others.

Individual Therapy is a great approach to address: self discovery (better understanding the way you think, feel and move through the world), emotional suffering, grief & loss, relationships, family conflict, life transitions & stages, trauma, depression, anxiety, and illness.

This is a unique working alliance with aims that can include: providing a safe reflective space, emotional support, expanding one’s critical self-reflection and structural analysis, developing clinical knowledge and skills, advancing professional judgment, and the exercise of values, ethics and standards of practice. Clinical professions in particular, are predicated on the assumption that honing one’s practice is a continuous learning commitment, we seek to do so with great care, collaboration, and humility.

Clinical Supervision is a great approach to address: ongoing case supervision and professional development, support processing the impact of cases on clinician, expanding critical self-reflection, developing clinical knowledge and skills, enhance therapeutic alliance, expand structural analysis, identify gaps in knowledge, blocks in understanding, or explore other ways of seeing and approaching issues, advancing professional judgment (values, ethics and standards of practice), and to meet the criteria for registration with professional body.

For those who are curious about themselves and interested in pursuing a more in depth journey, a 2x per week psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on core issues of a persons life and personality for the purpose of integration, change, and growth. Psychodynamic therapy involves facilitation of a deeper understanding of one's emotions and other mental processes. The goals of which are self-awareness, understanding the influence of the past on present, and the use of the therapeutic relationship as a window into one’s relationship patterns, so as to develop greater freedom and live healthier lives. This is achieved through the creative process of interpretive dialogue between the therapist and an individual in which each contributes to discovering how the person thinks, feels and behaves.

There are limited 2x per week spaces available. A separate intake process is required to determine suitability of the approach.

Hi I’m Nicole, a psychotherapist with over 14 years of counselling experience. It’s an honour to wade with people into the love and fear, pain and beauty, messy and magic of life. Humanity is complicated- understanding our own, and how we connect to others. So healing and self discovery can feel like contending with the vastness of space. We will work together to move through the stars and build constellations of relations that sustain life and meaning.

North American society is organized in a way that isolates people, cutting us off from family, community, even from a full sense of ourselves. This disconnection impacts us all in different ways, and has pressed me to pursue wholeness in therapy, where all the layers of our realities can be taken up, nurtured, and addressed in the space. The counselling relationship is too significant and vulnerable a space to feel nervous bringing up the impacts of systemic oppression, and yet I know this is a common experience for folks seeking out supportive services. My approach is deeply relational, compassionate, creative, trauma and structurally informed. Where individual experiences aren’t disconnected from movements in community, or struggles through colonialism, capitalism, or cis-heteropatriarchy.

As a therapist with extensive experience within diverse communities and practice settings, I’ve supported folks like you, through life’s incredible joys and hardships. From self discovery, grief & loss, trauma, relationships, family conflict, life transitions, depression, anxiety, and illness. As well as supporting other therapists and community workers to continue to care for themselves and others through their own therapy or clinical supervision services.

I believe healing happens in relation, and I am dedicated to nurturing a compassionate space where we can build trust, care, understanding, creativity, even humour in the process. I am an integrative therapist (which means I combine theory and techniques from various therapeutic schools of thought based on the express uniqueness of each person), that believes in the value of relational dynamic therapy, and where possible long-term in-depth therapy. Where I can really get to know you, and you can really get to know yourself, as we draw on a wider pool of counselling theory and approaches, for a deeper understanding of self in the world. Approaches drawn upon may include Narrative, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Existential, Systems, Psychodynamic, Attachment, Liberation Psychology, Cognitive and Behavioural, to cultural, creative and others, in order to support the therapeutic journey.

Finding the right counsellor can be tough, I know. It’s more than just picking a name off a list. So please contact me if you want to chat, ask some questions, and explore whether we might be a good therapeutic match. I look forward to connecting with you.
